Boinas La Encartada is a centenary site involved in the production of woollen knitwear from its foundation in 1892 to its closure in 1992. It is a remarkable example within the industrial scene of Bizkaia.
On the one hand, it has to do with an industrial sector which is underrepresented in the territory, the wool textile sector, which acted as a driving force for the implementation of technical advances in the industrial era. On the other, and even more interestingly, it has remained almost unchanged from its foundation and the site, the housing estate, the bus-bar system as well as the machinery create an atmosphere with a great evocative power, taking us back to the beginning of the industrial revolution.
For a decade, and due to its high heritage interest, the complex has been restored in order to be used as a museum of the Basque textile industry.
