HISTORY OF THE FACTORY

The factory was established by an indiano from the town, Marcos Arena Bermejillo, who raised the industrial estate which has basically remained unchanged to this day. An integral production line was maintained up to its closure, acquiring the raw materials, carrying out the spinning process, and then manufacturing berets (their main product) as well as blankets, cloths, scarves, socks, hanks and balaclavas.

The complex is currently made up of several buildings, amongst which stand, in addition to the factory-museum itself, the houses which the firm raised to accommodate the workers: a block close to the factory (1892-94), and another one lining road BI-636 (early 20th Century), and attached to it the chapel, which was also used for local school purposes until the middle of the century.

Furthermore, there was a detached house to accommodate the manager. Mechanically speaking, it contains very valuable machinery, most of which is original. All the operation was carried out by means of a Voith hydraulic turbine (1904) which replaced the first one in 1892. It turned the bus-bar system which, with the corresponding pulleys and belts, moved the manufacturing machines, and also produced a small electrical surplus for lighting.
